The first sheep on our farm were Icelandic, and they are still our favorite.
The Icelandic sheep is a medium-sized, sort-tailed heritage landrace breed originating from Norway and taken to Iceland in the late 9th century.
The Icelandic is known as a tri-purpose breed, prized for their fleece, milk, and meat.
They are dual-coated with a soft, fine undercoat called a thel, and a coarser, longer overcoat called the tog.
