The Northern Valley Textile Group Is hosting our annual fiber event at Lynch Family Fiber Farm in Emmett/Montour, Idaho on the weekend of September 7th and 8th.
Come and participate in fiber-related workshops with like-minded individuals to learn a new skill, brush up on old skills, or just to have fun for the sake of playing with fiber!
The event runs from 9am to 5pm on Saturday in person, and from 10am to 1pm on Sunday online only!
This event is appropriate for ages 14 and up. Space will be limited, so reserve your spot soon!

DESCRIPTION: Attendees will weave a bracelet on a plywood mini loom with a continuous warp, using an assortment of yarns, cords, and can add beads other trinkets in its creation. Supplies fee includes all supplies including mini loom.
TIME: 1pm - 2pm
INSTRUCTOR: Valerie Frazier

DESCRIPTION: Watch and learn how to warp your rigid heddle loom. You will be given the opportunity to assist the instructor, or bring your own loom and get help warping!

DESCRIPTION: Tablet weaving on belt and card loom. Pattern will be a 16 card “easy” to follow forward and backwards turn, and warping the loom will be discussed in depth. Supplies fee includes tablets and yarn. Bring your own band weaving loom, or wear a belt!

DESCRIPTION: Students will learn about different breeds of sheep and types of wool, as well as ways to prepare different wool for spinning. Tools will be provided for student's use in class. Various types of wool will be provided for each student to use during class and take home. Students can bring their own tools and wool if they want. More of the wools used during class will be available for purchase.

DESCRIPTION: Join Sarah Burke of local fiber mill "I Make Yarn" in this hands on class to practice skirting - the first cleaning and sorting of fibers prior to washing your fleece. Bring your own, just watch and learn, or purchase a fleece on site. Alpaca fleeces will also be available for purchase for $30.

INSTRUCTOR: Renee Johanson

DESCRIPTION: Basic spinning skills using a drop spindle. Participants will receive a 3D printed Turkish drop spindle and fiber to spin for the cost of the class. Instruction will cover basic fiber behavior, wheel and/or spindle mechanics, pre drafting and drafting techniques, and trouble shooting.

DESCRIPTION: Join us for a make and take of felted soaps - soap wrapped in colorful felted wool to make great scrubbing on the go! This class will be wet - you may want to bring an apron! All materials provided.

DESCRIPTION: Choose either Lavender Fields, A Mountain Trail, or an Alpine Lake to create a 4x4" mini landscape using a pre printed "paint by number" format. Kit provided will include: Wool felt backing with the printed design of your choice, selected roving to complete your project, packets of felting and finishing needles, and 1 4x6 foam block. You will learn all the basics to create and complete your own wool "painted" landscape.

DESCRIPTION: Learn the basics of natural dyeing! We'll cover fiber prep and the different kinds of mordants, and then we'll get hands-on with a variety of different dye pots to play with! The cost of the class will provide you with three mini-skeins of wool to dye and accesses to a variety of different dye pots to use during the workshop.

DESCRIPTION: Come learn the basics of hand-painting skeins using acid dyes! The cost of the class will provide you with three mini-skeins of wool to paint, and access to a selection of premixed dyes to use as we learn the techniques. Feel free to bring your own skeins to paint if you'd like to do more, or buy more skeins on-site!

DESCRIPTION: Dyeing with items from your kitchen! In this workshop you'll learn the difference between stains and dyes, including which kitchen foods produce lovely results, and which ones to avoid if you want your color to last. The cost of the class will provide you with three mini-skeins of wool to dye and access to a variety of different kitchen dye pots and mordants.

DESCRIPTION: Nalbinding has been found all over the world and as early as 6000BC. Come learn one of the earliest textile arts! This is a beginners class. We'll use the Oslo stitch to learn the basic techniques of making a row of stitches and joining those stitches to make a mug cozy or wrist warmer. The cost of the class will include a nal (needle) and a skein of Icelandic lopi for your project.

INSTRUCTOR: Renee Johanson

DESCRIPTION: Students will learn the basic chain stitch and single crochet. We will work on a set of hot pads crocheted in the round and the instructor will help students trouble shoot and address common mistakes in crochet that lead to uneven work and increasing or decreasing stitches unintentionally. Crochet hook size I and a skein of variegated yarn included.

DESCRIPTION: Ever been flummoxed by how to turn a heel? Learn how to create a custom sock for any foot, using a variety of toe, heel, and shaping options with any yarn or needle size. Needles and yarn will be provided but you're also welcome to bring your own if you have a project you're already working on.

DESCRIPTION: The technique of Nalbinding encompasses a wide variety of different stitches and has been used for many different purposes around the world and across time. This class will take a look at some of the important historical artifacts and current traditions of nalbinding from all six occupied continents.
